Receiving the Spark of the Sacred Heart

Happy Feast of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque!

St. Margaret Mary is known for spreading devotion to Jesus' Sacred Heart. This morning I was pondering Jesus' Sacred Heart and how to become the light as I was praying with Luke 12:33-36, "No one who lights a lamp hides it away or places it under a bushel basked, but on a lampstand so that those who enter might see the light. The lamp of the body is your eye. When your eye is sound, then your whole body is filled with light, but when it is bad, then your body is in darkness. Take care, then, that the light in you not become darkness. If your whole body is full of light, and no part of it is in darkness, then it will be as full of light as a lamp illuminating you with its brightness."

Lately I've been struggling with being distracted during prayer, so I've taken to just gazing at the Sacred Heart of Jesus image enthroned in our home. Today it felt especially appropriate due to St. Margaret Mary's feast day being today. As I stared at Jesus' heart and tried to ponder the scripture I had read, I realized that our daily duties, offerings, and prayers are the "kindling" thrown onto the fire of His love that make the light grow brighter within us. First we receive the spark of His love and then return it tenfold to Him by offering everything we have. Every time we offer Him our daily yes to the things we must do - the laundry, the cooking, the cleaning, the caring for children, paying bills, enduring an awkward moment in charity, or caring for a sick loved one - we add more fuel to the fire of love. Every little moment of our lives can be a path to Him! What a grace!

I hope you have a blessed day!
