My Creative Process

All of our offerings start with a stirring of the heart. The subjects for paintings, bible verses, and saint quotes are usually received in prayer, from something that I'm actively wrestling with. God has given me the gift of being an "external processor", where I need to actively process through what He is saying to me in the circumstances of my life, scripture, and prayer. This processing usually starts with praying Lectio Divina or some other method of conversing with God through scripture. From there, conversations with my husband, friends, and family bolster what I receive. My inspiration flows (sometimes quietly trickles) into the painting, usually acrylic but sometimes watercolor. There are stories behind each of the pieces that you see on this website, and it's my hope that like St. Dominic, I can "contemplate and give to others the fruit of contemplation" through offering my art for others to receive.

As with all things this side of heaven, it's a messy yet beautiful process. Sometimes I don't land exactly where I thought I would, or a finished piece looks nothing like I had envisioned to begin with, yet I trust that it's exactly where God wanted me to be.

I'd like to tell more of the story behind each of the pieces we offer, and I plan to make more posts soon to share more of the behind the scenes of my creative process!

Until Then,

Kat

p.s. what about you? What does your creative process look like?
